Project Hotel Wijnberg is a long-term artistic and social project, developed in collaboration with theatre maker Christof Henken in the Kamperpoort district of Zwolle. Starting from the history of the former Hotel Wijnberg and conversations with local residents, we explored questions of home, belonging, memory and place.
Drawing became one of the ways of listening, observing and recording everyday life. Working from archival photographs, family histories and encounters in the neighbourhood, I created a series of drawings that formed part of the wider project. These drawings are not illustrations of history, but attempts to stay with people, places and memories through the slow act of looking.
The works shown here are a small selection from a larger body of drawings developed during the project.
